The Leader in Corrosion Resistant Scales and Volumetric Feeders for Municipal Water Treatment Applications

Spill Containment Drum Scale
Model 4042-26™ Spill Containment Drum Scale

Scaletron is the leader in corrosion resistant technology for scales and volumetric feeders used in harsh environments. We manufacture a complete line of scales and accessories designed for weighing, and monitoring the usage, feed rate and inventory of corrosive chemicals and/or materials. In addition, we offer a complete line of volumetric screw feeders for dry powdered chemicals and other materials. Feeders are available with a gravimetric feed option with a built-in scale and a range of loading options from bag loaders to direct feed from silos.

From rural well heads and private water plants to large-scale metropolitan water utilities, weighing and feeding technology from Scaletron ensures that the proper levels of chemicals are injected into the system to provide a safe source of water supply for their customers.

The water treatment process uses a variety of chemicals in order to render both surface and ground water potable and palatable. Chemicals are used to destroy harmful organisms, remove color and ammonia compounds, eliminate hydrogen sulfide, oxidize iron and manganese to insoluble forms, and reduce undesirable taste and odors. During these processes monitoring chemical feed rates is vital to maintaining the water quality.

Meeting the Weighing and Feeding Needs of the Municipal Water Treatment Industry

We meet the needs of municipal water treatment facilities by providing reliable, accurate and safe methods to weigh and feed chemicals used to treat and clarify water for safe human consumption.

Chemicals used during this process are typically stored in a 150 lb. cylinder or ton cylinder as a liquefied gas, or in a day tank, drum or IBC tote as a liquid. Monitoring the feed rates via weight is vital to maintaining the water quality. If a cylinder is not replaced or refilled before it is depleted, the proper amount of purifying chemicals will not be added to the water, potentially posing serious health issues. Other water conditioning chemicals are supplied as dry powders and require accurate feed rates to achieve proper dosing.

Many of the chemicals that need to be weighed and/or fed are highly corrosive if used in the wrong amounts and toxic, requiring safe handling. Typical chemicals include:

  • Ammonia
  • Carbon
  • Caustic soda
  • Chlorine
  • Fluoride
  • Polymers
  • Sodium hypochlorite

Scaletron’s scales and feeders can be found in many private and municipal water applications including:

  • Bacteria and coliform removal
  • Chemical removal
  • Metals removal
  • pH adjustment

Whether the application requires a standard or custom system, Scaletron’s engineers will help find the right solution to best meet your needs.
